Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

Have all Students become more skilled in the woodworking profession. Have every student gain more self-awareness of their skills and how they can manage their time on projects. To become a safe wood worker around self and others. To have students learn how to use woodworking equipment to achieve their desired projects goals. To complete at least two projects of your own and Learn Teamwork on group projects to learn to depend on one another for completion of work if time and projects are available.

An introduction to the basics of woodworking. Students will be shown safety on hand tools and power machinery. Techniques of woodworking will be demonstrated. This course delivered to non-cabinetmaking majors. The basics of machinery uses and set up procedures will be taught. How to make basic woodworking joinery techniques will be taught on basic projects. Instructional Methodology Mandatory Assignments Lecture on Safety "you, machinery, others" Demonstrations of machinery, (safety handouts) Chapter 18 health and safety given out. Review safety handouts How to use a tape measure. Practice cuts on machinery with use of the tape measure. Safety test given and passed Practice basic projects, cutting board, cribbage board, and plaque (glue up) Discussion of your projects. Basic wood joints demonstrated and practiced by you on machinery covered. Lecture on Styles and Designs of Cabinetry and Furniture.
