III. Catalog Course Description

This course provides applied instruction using computer systems and Microsoft Office suite application software within the business environment. The course includes both lecture and hands-on learning and emphasizes practical concepts of file management; the creation of documents using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software; use of the Internet to access an retrieve data; and how various software components work together efficiently and effectively. This course is based on hardware and software that uses the Windows operating system.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

Generate professional looking documents by applying formatting, headers, footers, borders, shading, tabs, indentation, citation, footnotes, clip art, and mail merge. Produce spreadsheets ranging from formatting, functions, charting, formulat construction, and pivot tables. Implement databses structure ranging from design, data entry, forms, reports, and queries. Design presentations usuing slide show design, images, animation, themes, SmartArt, tables, charts, and video.

Manage files and folders, copy and move files and folders, and use the Recycle Bin. Create, save, and print a Microsoft Office 2013 document. Use the ribbon and dialog boxes to perform commands in Microsoft Office 2013. Create a flyer with a picture. Format text, paragraphs, and documents. Write a resume by using a Word table. Write a cover letter and use a template to create a cover sheet. Create a research paper that includes citations and a bibliography. Create a multiple-column newsletter and merged mailing labels.
