EDUC 202 Field Experience*

This course provides students with practical experience in Pre-K-12 classrooms and weekly discussions regarding professionalism in teaching. Under the supervision of a cooperating teacher, students will complete 30 hours observing and aiding their mentor teacher. (This course addresses Idaho Core Teacher Standard 1).

III. Catalog Course Description

This course provides students with practical experience in Pre-K-12 classrooms and weekly discussions regarding professionalism in teaching. Under the supervision of a cooperating teacher, students will complete 30 hours observing and aiding their mentor teacher. (This course addresses Idaho Core Teacher Standard 1).

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

Complete 15 lecture hours with a CSI instructor face-to-face or online. Background Check completed before entering field experience in schools. Complete a minimum 90 hours with a certified teacher. Engaged in any or all of the following activities: observing classroom instruction; individual instruction; working with small groups of students; organizing class activities; and/or performing other duties that are normal in a teacher’s everyday activities. Understand critical standards of Professionalism and Ethics, basic lesson plan components, & conceptualize what "Effective Teachers do".

Principle 6: Communications Skills- The pre-service teacher uses a variety of communication techniques to foster inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in and beyond the classroom. Outcome : Students will reflect upon their field experience Assessment: Survey Principle 9: Professional Commitment and Responsibility- The pre-service teacher is reflective practitioner who demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and is continuously engaged in purposeful mastery of the art and science of teaching. Outcome : Students will complete an assigned K-12 classroom experience with a certified cooperating teacher. Assessment: A completed CSI Performance Form (portfolio entry) by the cooperating, licensed teacher.
