The goal of this course is to study the devices and techniques used in contemporary professional writing such as memoirs and essays and to write creative non-fiction.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

Broaden their understanding of the genre by reading and discussing creative nonfiction, as well as essays about creative nonfiction. Practice various techniques, styles, forms, and conventions of creative nonfiction. Experiment with ideas and creative approaches. Practice a variety of approaches to develop student’s own unique voice. Provide and receive constructive feedback in a workshop setting. Revise working drafts both intuitively and objectively.
