III. Catalog Course Description

This 1-credit course lays the foundation for lifelong wellness by introducing students to seven dimensions of wellness (physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, environmental, financial) and allowing students to practice behavior change in at least three dimensions through establishing, practicing and reflecting on individualized SMART goals.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

Learning Outcome 1: Identify. Define the purpose of lifelong wellness. Activity: Readings, lectures, discussions or assignments related to the seven dimensions of wellness. Assessment: Pre-test and post-test Learning Outcome 2: Plan. Create wellness goals. Activity: Create SMART goals for the seven dimensions of wellness Assessment: SMART goals worksheet grading rubric Learning Outcome 3:Practice. Apply wellness knowledge to act on at least three goals addressing at least three dimensions of wellness Activity: Students will complete behavior changes identified in SMART goals for at least three dimensions of wellness. Assessment: Weekly participation through journals and/or self-reporting. Learning Outcome 4: Reflect. Reframe beliefs and behaviors impacting lifelong wellness as a result of practicing behavior change to achieve SMART goals. Identify a target behavior for all seven dimensions of wellness. 3. Create SMART goals to achieve those target behaviors. 4. Evaluate SMART goals. Learning Outcome 3: Practice. Apply wellness knowledge to act on at least three goals addressing at least three dimensions of wellness 1. Develop a behavior change strategy for implementing each SMART goal. 2. Practice the behavior change strategy for each SMART goal. 3. Measure progress through journaling and/or self-reporting. Learning Outcome 4: Reflect. Reframe beliefs and behaviors impacting lifelong wellness as a result of practicing behavior change to achieve SMART goals. 1. Explain beliefs that promoted or inhibited behavior change to achieve practiced SMART goals. 2. Explain behaviors that promoted or inhibited behavior change to achieve practiced SMART goals. 3. Explain the connection between those beliefs and behaviors and maintaining lifelong wellness. 4.
