CISG 223 Advanced Intership

Students will complete an advanced project under the direction of IT faculty. The activity will be negotiated and graded by contract. The nature of the project will include elements from each facet of the student’s program curriculum and will be evaluated by a committee of IT faculty. This project involves research and appropriate documentation. As part of this course, students will take a Technical Skill Assessment to demonstrate program proficiency.

III. Catalog Course Description

Students will complete an advanced project under the direction of IT faculty. The activity will be negotiated and graded by contract. The nature of the project will include elements from each facet of the student’s program curriculum and will be evaluated by a committee of IT faculty. This project involves research and appropriate documentation. As part of this course, students will take a Technical Skill Assessment to demonstrate program proficiency.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • To pull together all objectives learned in the classroom over the course of the program into real-life applications.
  • Students shall successfully complete activities designed by the worksite supervisor and the instructor that will enhance learning and provide practical work experience. Weekly time sheets must be signed by the internship supervisor and the student and turned in weekly. These must total 96 hours spaced over the total semester.
  • The student will demonstrate the ability to create a complete "business identity".
  • Students will be graded on their ability to complete a group of projects assigned throughout the semester that demonstrate the ability to create the following: resume, logo, letterhead/postcard/business card, full page ad, 30 second commercial, and website. (Subject to change at instructor’s discretion.)
  • Students will be able to identify industry-wide terminology and concepts.
  • NOCTI Visual Communications and Multimedia Design exam

V. Topical Outline (Course Content)

The internship is an integral part of the curriculum in which the student gains practical experience in the coursework taught in the Digital Media program. The internship training provides the student an opportunity to perform various computer procedures under supervision. A minimum of 96 hours on the job must be completed prior to the student receiving his/her certificate. Students must also complete a printed portfolio which will be a compilation of current semester artwork, a current resume, and other material as assigned by the instructor.
