This course develops whitewater paddling skills through hands on experience with special attention given to the safety concerns of traveling in whitewater. The skills students will focus on include trip leadership, risk management, reading whitewater, maneuvering water craft, swiftwater rescue, and raft outfitting. Course fee required.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Demonstrate appropriate paddle strokes and rowing techniques to navigate a raft.
- Identify river features and hazards to safely navigate downstream through Class II-III rapids.
- Demonstrate effective communication for river travel.
- Demonstrate swiftwater rescue skills to avoid and manage whitewater hazards.
