This course introduces the student nurse to theoretical and evidence-based perspectives of nursing care of patients with behavioral and mental health issues across cultures and the life span. The course will emphasize mental health issues and the impact on society, communication, safety, quality of life, and ethical considerations.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Identify and provide a safe environment for individuals facing abuse and neglect.
- Participate and assist clients in managing behavioral disorders in group or individual settings.
- Recognize and provide resources for clients experience chemical or other dependencies.
- Collect data and care for clients utilizing coping mechanisms.
- Identify clients in crisis mode and educate clients in crisis management through coping mechanisms.
- Identify importance of client culture/ethnicity when providing care to diverse clients.
- Identify client end-of-life needs through care and education.
- Provide client teaching for grief and loss.
