Students will also learn to safely assess, test, secure, move, and place heavy objects using non-verbal rigging communication techniques and applicable equipment. Crane hand signals, rigging hardware and safety are examples of relevant course topics.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Calculate load weight given weight per unit length.
  • Use two hoists to lift a load.
  • Perform a specified lift with proper safety procedures.
  • Define rigging and give an application.
  • Describe the functions of four basic components of a rigging system.
  • Calculate sling force of a sling given sling type and loss factor.
  • Give and interpret crane hand signals.
