MATH 152 Statistical Reasoning Prep

This course provides additional instruction for MATH 153 by covering these algebra-based probability and statistics preparatory topics: performing operations, evaluating expressions, identifying variables in context, understanding graphical displays of data, evaluating formulas, understanding linear models, and using a graphing calculator to perform statistical calculations. The course will also provide additional instructor support in understanding concepts, completing homework, and preparing for exams in MATH 153, as well as strategies for success in a college math course.

  • Identify variables in context.
  • Round decimals to a specific place value.
  • Calculate and understand factorials, permutations, and combinations.
  • Use a graphing calculator to evaluate statistical formulas (including confidence interval formulas and hypothesis testing formulas).
  • Write and interpret two forms of notation: inequality notation and interval notation.
  • Find and interpret a linear model.
  • Find values from a linear model.
  • Evaluate exponents.
  • Translate numbers between scientific notation and standard form.
  • Convert between decimals, fractions, and percentages.
  • Apply summation notation.
  • Recognize and analyze graphical displays of data including frequency tables, histograms, bar graphs, pie charts, dot plots, and stem plots.
  • Evaluate expressions.
  • Apply the order of operations.
