This course is a continuation of Portuguese 101 with increased emphasis on building both oral and written proficiency in the Portuguese language, as well as continued emphasis on listening, reading and writing skills. Also central to the course is the use of popular music and other media to examine the language through the lens of contemporary Luso-Brazilian culture.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Confidently Initiate and sustain conversations at a level appropriate to their language exposure and experience (high intermediate based on ACTFL standards), Integrating various culturally appropriate behaviors into their conversations.
  • Understand that language progression constantly builds on previously learned material, and must be continually practiced to expand on grammar and vocabulary.
  • Read texts at an appropriate level.
  • Have an appreciation of attitudes, behaviors, cultural characteristics, political realities, and geography of Luso-Brazilian societies.
  • Demonstrate creativity in using the language and navigating a variety of conversational situations.
