III. Catalog Course Description

This course focuses on continuing surgical theory. It provides study of special problems that correlate with the individual needs of students during clinical practice. 

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate application and knowledge related to workplace and patient safety.
  • Demonstrate application and knowledge of competencies of aseptic technique.
  • Practice within ethical and legal standards in relation to patient, physician, hospital, and personnel,
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to surgical procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of AIDS and other blood borne diseases.
  • Prepare and function as an advanced Surgical Technology (in both the scrub role and in the assisting circulator role) student during pre-, intra-, and post-surgical procedures.
  • Recognize and assist with emergency situations. b. Establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrate continuing educational growth. 3. Study for and take the (NBSTSA) National Certification Examination
