Placement Testing
The Idaho State Board of Education establishes statewide placement guidelines for General Education (GEM) writing and
mathematics courses.
Students may use their highest qualifying score from one of the following exams for placement:
• SAT
• ACT
• 11th Grade Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)
Standardized test scores documented on an official high school transcript or submitted by the student after being
downloaded from the College Board will be recognized as official scores for institutional purposes.
The charts below show which English and math courses are recommended based on your scores. You may take the recommended course or talk with an academic advisor about starting in a lower-level course if you would like more support. Funding may be available to help pay for some lower-level courses. Speak with your advisor and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships before registering to find out whether the course qualifies.
