Practical Nursing

Program Overview:

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) practice in long term care facilities, physician offices, rural hospitals, home health, and administrative offices. LPN’s completing the program at CSI graduate with IV Therapy Certification. The Practical Nursing (PN) program is approved by the Idaho Board of Nursing and Idaho Division of Career Technical Education. Upon satisfactory completion of the PN program the graduate is eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN. Applying to this program is a separate application process from applying to the College or declaring your major.

Program Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing program, a student will be able to: 

· Provide safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive nursing care while demonstrating accountability, integrity, and ethical/legal practice within the scope of the practical nurse.

· Collaborate effectively with patients, families, peers, and the interprofessional team to promote safe, quality outcomes and support a culture of respect.

· Apply the nursing process, current evidence, and the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Model to prioritize care, make safe decisions, and implement timely interventions.

· Integrate safety principles, infection control, and quality improvement strategies to minimize risk of harm, report errors or near misses, and participate in system improvements.

· Use technology and electronic health records to document care, retrieve information, and support safe, effective nursing practice.

Course Performance Requirements:

To promote success on the certification/licensure examination(s), all Required Courses must be passed with a grade of C or better.
