CISG 201 Advanced Photoshop

This course will explore advanced digital tools and processes for preparing images for publication in commercial or professional applications. Students will use layers, channels, and a broad variety of filters for creating compelling graphics for display on the World-wide Web and in other applications. The course will also discuss how resolution, color models, color depth, and file formats determine the quality of graphics for use in design work. Prerequisites: Photoshop 1 (CISG 101) and Photoshop 2 (CISG 102)

III. Catalog Course Description

This course will explore advanced digital tools and processes for preparing images for publication in commercial or professional applications. Students will use layers, channels, and a broad variety of filters for creating compelling graphics for display on the World-wide Web and in other applications. The course will also discuss how resolution, color models, color depth, and file formats determine the quality of graphics for use in design work. Prerequisites: Photoshop 1 (CISG 101) and Photoshop 2 (CISG 102)

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Students will use advanced techniques to adjust color, tonality, and sharpness to images needing such correction.
  • Students will utilize advanced selection and masking features, channels, and filters to facilitate image compositing andplacement into a digital gallery.
  • Students will create a 30-second animation using Photoshop’s Animation palette.
  • Students will create a showcard that contains styled text, at least one scanned or digital photo, and a vector object.
  • Students will create and assemble a package design using an original photo, special effects filters, and at least one vector object, along with creative type.
