III. Catalog Course Description
This course includes lecture and study activities on the nomenclature of Dental Pathology. Topics include general appearance and definitions of lesions, clinical features of neoplasm's and oral manifestations of a spectrum of diseases. Students will apply and develop skills in differential diagnosis and documentation of lesions/conditions using case studies.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Name the eight diagnostic categories and give an example of a lesion, anomaly, or condition for which this category greatly contributes to the definitive diagnosis.
- State and Describe Muscles of Mastication and relationship with attrition, abrasion, erosion, and bruxism
- Describe the difference between passive and active immunity
- List examples of opportunistic infections that can occur in the oral cavity
- State three factors that have been implicated in the cause of temporomandibular disorders
- Define each of the terms in the vocabulary list for each chapter
- Explain the difference between a benign tumor and a malignant tumor
- Review the embryonic development of the face, oral cavity, and teeth
- Using the cells involved, describe the difference between antibody-mediated immunity and cell-mediated immunity
