DENH 295 Testing and Board Reviews

This Course is intended for the Dental Hygiene Students who will be preparing to take the National Board Examination will study the moderate to advanced periodontal patient, selection of surgical procedures and maintenance. The course review periodontal and restorative considerations, occlusion and TMJ disorders, periodontal surgery, dental implants and maintenance, periodontal emergences and a review of evidenced-based periodontal research. This course will build exam experience and confidence. The interactive system and text is designed to review and prepare each student for the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

• Define health promotion, target populations, and teaching strategies.
• Analyze scientific literature, statistical concepts and apply research results.
• Justify components of the cell, functions of the blood and the lymph system.
• Compare and contrast Nutrients, Nutritional assessment and counseling, nutritional screening and nutrition relating to oral health.
• Interpret normal anatomy of the head and neck, joint of the skull, paranasal sinuses, and blood supply of the head and neck.
• Argue the infectious disease process, viral, bacterial and fungal infections.
• Evaluate terminology relating to general and oral pathology.
• Select drugs used in dentistry and their clinical uses pharmacological effect, toxic reactions, and contraindications.
• Support emergency management techniques. Describe unconsciousness, altered consciousness, chest pain, respiratory distress, cardiac arrest and management.
• Develop and plan community programs.
• Justify radiation physics, production of radiation, exposure factors, radiographic techniques, film processing error and corrections and film mounting and duplication.
• Critique periodontal disease, gingivitis, periodontal classifications and periodontal therapy.
