SURT 104 Surgical Practice and Procedures
	Study and practice designed to enable the student to become skilled in assisting with peri-operative surgical care of all patients including special populations. The course offers an in depth study of aseptic technique, disinfection and sterilization, case planning, transporting, positioning, prepping and draping surgical patients, care of and selection of surgical instruments, equipment, and surgical sponges. There is an in-depth study of wound healing, drains, wound closure and surgical dressings. The student will learn care of surgical specimen, lasers, robotics and diagnostic procedures. The student will learn and practice all aspects of peri-operative patient care in the required lab. In addition to the required lab hours, students must document 4 hours per week practicing skills in the lab.
