This course is a stand-alone Detention Academy. This six-week academy gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain their POST detention certification.
Students may only earn credit for either LAWE 204 or LAWE 205. Students may not earn credit for both.

III. Catalog Course Description
This course is a stand-alone Detention Academy. This six-week academy gives students the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain their POST detention certification.
Students may only earn credit for either LAWE 204 or LAWE 205. Students may not earn credit for both.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Describe detention safety issues.
- Demonstrate knowledge of proper fire evacuation and the use of SCBA equipment to find and drag/carry an inmate from a smoke-filled room.
- Explain Idaho jail standards and demonstrate proper fire safety equipment usage.
- Become familiar with and be able to explain Idaho laws regarding inmate safety.
- Understand deputy survival techniques as it relates to con games.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethical decision-making.
- Understand the dynamics involved in hostage survival.
- Define and demonstrate a proper cell search.
- Explain how to help keep Idaho jails in compliance with required Idaho jail standards.
- Describe and demonstrate proper restraint, transport, and pat-down techniques.
- Explain the relevant medical/legal aspects of jails.
- Explain the constitutional provisions related to the legal meaning of arrest and warrant service as it relates to jails.
- Define and explain the inmate classification system.
- Explain the dynamics related to hostage survival in a jail setting.
- Define the reasons for and the proper method of conducting a cell search.
- Successfully complete CPR and AED training and be able to perform both properly.

Assessment Strategy Narrative
Written assessments will be given at the end of each training section. The written assessments and weekly oral assessments (given via Kahoot) make up the final letter grade for the course.
