The focus of this course is to introduce students to the anatomy and physiology of fish. The class will describe the morphology of fish and roles of different organs as well as their effects on physiology. Students will also classify fish, describe ecological distributions, and understand behavioral patterns.

  • Describe the diversity of fish, their evolutionary history, and their roles in aquatic ecosystems
  • Identify and explain the structure and function of major organ systems
  • Classify fish using basic taxonomic principles and identify common local and culture species using keys and field guides
  • Summarize key processes of fish growth, reproductive strategies, and early life stages
  • Explain common fish behaviors and their ecological importance
  • Analyze simple biological data and communicate findings in multiple formats
