Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Handle dangerous chemicals with ease under instructor supervision
- Deal with small amounts of hazardous waste produced in a laboratory setting and understand the rationale for the rules
- Prepare a lab report with prelab, lab data and post-lab components as directed by the laboratory instructor
- Apply the scientific method in multi-step experiments to achieve the desired outcomes
- Follow and understand the reasons behind applicable safety rules in the lab
- Correctly identify and use significant figures as produced in the context of the laboratory measurement process
- Correctly and safely handle essential laboratory equipment including various types of glassware (pipets, burets, graduated cylinders, beakers, flasks, etc), and other ancillary equipment (burners, hot plates, etc) under a variety of laboratory conditions and temperatures
- Use basic computer tools to assist in laboratory evaluation specifically focused on the use of spreadsheets and computer graphing to assist in data evaluation
- Perform all necessary calculations for the various experiments; Gain confidence in their ability to perform good work in a laboratory setting.
