DIET 108 Heating, Ventilation & AC
	This is a course in theory and laboratory practice on the basic heating, ventilation and air conditioning operations and functions of the different parts and systems on diesel equipment. The students will perform diagnostics, repairs, electrical, and adjustments related to the different AC systems including heating and ventilation systems as related to trucks and equipment on R-12 & R-134a systems. This also includes retrofitting to R-134a.

		III. Catalog Course Description
	
		This is a course in theory and laboratory practice on the basic heating, ventilation and air conditioning operations and functions of the different parts and systems on diesel equipment. The students will perform diagnostics, repairs, electrical, and adjustments related to the different AC systems including heating and ventilation systems as related to trucks and equipment on R-12 & R-134a systems. This also includes retrofitting to R-134a.
	 
		IV. Student Learning Outcomes
	
		Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to: 
			- demonstrate the working knowledge of the Air Conditioning system on all ag/construction equipment
- demonstrate a working knowledge of the basic components that make up the Air Conditioning system
- identify different types of A/C refrigerant and various A/C system oils
- understand the diagnostics procedures including pressures and use of A/C gauges (high pressure testing of the system)
- demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving on the AC systems
- have a working knowledge of the AC electrical and adjustment of controls on trucks and tractors
- use and safely operate A/C evacuation machines
- properly evacuate A/C system
- properly check oil and recharge A/C system
- comply with personal and environmental safety and practices as outlined in the ASE manual and freightliner training guide
- successfully complete the ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Quiz
- successfully complete the HVAC final with a "C" grade or higher
- successfully complete MACS (Mobile Air Conditioning Society Worldwide) training course and receive certification
