III. Catalog Course Description

This course is a review of music fundamentals including note and rhythm reading, scales, intervals, triads, and seventh chords. Music Theory 104 includes harmonic analysis, keyboard skills, part-writing, harmonic progressions and cadences. 

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Identify and write Intervals, Triads, and Dominant 7th Chords
  • Harmonize simple melodies and recognize cadences
  • Complete harmonic analysis of Bach four-part chorales
  • Learn beginning part-writing techniques
  • Play simple melodies on the piano
  • Compose, notate, and perform your own composition
  • Identify Pitches in the Treble and Bass Clef and on the Piano
  • Read and clap rhythms in simple and compound meters
  • Sing, write, and hear Major and Minor scales
  • Identify and write Major and Minor key signatures
