III. Catalog Course Description

This course provides basic keyboard skills for the music majors including training in piano theory and technique, sight reading and listening skills, simple harmonization, improvisation and transposition. Non-music majors may take this class with instructor permission or C or better in MUSI 151.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Play Major and Minor triads and inversions on all keys
  • Harmonize simple melodies using primary chords
  • Solo performance of Level 2-3 difficulty
  • Gain skill to pass the Piano Proficiency Exam for Music Majors
  • Perform intermediate ensembles with other classmates
  • Perform all White key Major scales HS, two octaves in 8th notes at quarter note = MM.100
  • Perform root position primary chords with all the white key major scales
  • Play I IV I V7 I progressions for white major keys
  • Review all the technique requirements from MUSI 151 with greater fluency
