Student Accessibility Services

The College of Southern Idaho recognizes its responsibilities to provide equal access, accommodations, and support for individuals with disabilities. Staff and faculty share resources, advocate with, and collaborate across our campus community to fulfill these responsibilities. Student Accessibility Services builds and maintains partnerships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to promote an accessible, non-discriminatory learning, teaching, and working environment meeting the needs and abilities of students with disabilities.

In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended, Student Accessibility Services is proactive in developing accommodations to best support the abilities of each individual eligible for services and meet course requirements.

Accommodations for students with disabilities are individualized to the needs of each eligible student. Accommodations are determined through an interactive process where a student’s documentation is reviewed. Documentation is an evaluation by an appropriate professional that describes the student’s diagnosis and the current impact of the disability, in a college setting, as it relates to the needed accommodations. Reasonable accommodations are made in context with the goals and essential standards of the college program, course, etc. to which the student is requesting access.

To receive accommodations for a disability, students need to make a formal request for services by visiting our office or webpage and filling out an intake form. Students are encouraged to begin the process to receive accommodations prior to beginning the term; however, students can apply for accommodations for a disability at any time during the term.

Some common accommodations that students, who have registered through Student Accessibility Services, may receive at the College of Southern Idaho are:

  • Assistive Technology

  • Test/Quiz Accommodations

  • Classroom/Lab Adjustments

  • Alternate Format

  • Sign Language Interpreting

  • Housing Accommodations

The College of Southern Idaho has made an effort to remove most physical barriers through sound architectural planning. Students, who need to utilize areas that are not accessible, please contact the Student Accessibility Services Office to arrange for unforeseen needed accommodations.
