Student Recreation
The CSI Student Recreation Center is free for all full-time CSI students, with costs already included in student fees paid to CSI. Part-time students can access affordable membership rates, and community memberships are also available. The facility is open nearly 360 days a year, offering flexible hours from early morning to late at night to accommodate your schedule. Spanning 24,000 square feet, the center includes a multipurpose court with regulation-size basketball and volleyball courts, an elevated three-lane indoor running track, a spinning room, a cardio-aerobic room, and a cardio loft with a variety of equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bicycles, stairmasters, and rowing machines. The weight room is fully equipped with free weights, selectorized weight machines, and plate-loaded stations. Day-use lockers are also available for your convenience. Drop-in fitness classes, including Spinning, Yoga, and High-low fitness, are included with any active membership and are offered throughout the week. In addition, we host intramural sports, which are free for students and open to the community for a minimal charge. The CSI Outdoor Recreation Center serves to provide students, faculty & staff, and community members with adventure-based learning through outdoor and wilderness experiences. Fostering an environment of self-efficacy and interpersonal growth, each adventure seeks to create awareness for environmental stewardship, develop leaders, and promote lifetime active living. In an effort to tap into a diverse range of interests of the CSI student population and community, the CSI Outdoor Recreation Center offers a variety of activities for the first-timers to the seasoned outdoor enthusiast. Outdoor adventures include: kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, camping, rock climbing, backpacking, caving, hot springing, snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, white water rafting, educational clinics, and special events. The CSI Challenge Course is an exciting experiential educational program initially developed as a joint venture between the College of Southern Idaho and Magic Valley Regional Medical Center and is now solely operated by the College of Southern Idaho. The course is nestled in a park-like setting adjacent to the main campus. The course has 22 high and low permanent elements, including a 50’ climbing wall, as well as many other activities. Trained facilitators design a program to meet each group’s specific goals while ensuring that all participants have a positive, fun, and safe experience. Everyone can participate on some level on the Challenge Course regardless of age, physical ability or athletic experience. The course provides a unique environment to improve relationships, develop successful team strategies, hone leadership skills, build trust, experience personal growth, create lasting friendships, build self-confidence, and much more, all while having lots of fun.
