This course includes theory of designing curriculum in various environments, advocacy for children and families, and adapting lesson plans for special needs children. This course requires Idaho Health and Welfare enhanced background check and pediatric first aid/CPR.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Utilize a broad repertoire of developmentally appropriate teaching strategies in early childhood and special education.
  • Explain the major concepts of positive behavioral supports and classroom management strategies.
  • Explain Project Based Learning and how it integrates with the developmentally appropriate (DAP) content curricula.
  • Integrate early childhood theories, curriculums, and philosophies into classroom practice.
  • Utilize trauma-informed classroom practices.
  • Research current trends and issues with early childhood education.
  • Design an advocacy project to support young children.

Assessment Strategy Narrative

A variety of formative and summative assessments will be used to assess the student learning outcomes for this course. Additionally, at the end of the program, students will complete a National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exam in the area of Early Childhood Education to meet program learning outcomes.
