III. Catalog Course Description

Course acquaints students with proper restraint methods for large, small, and exotic animal species. Students learn technical skills involved in husbandry, examination, and medical documentation for sick animals. Emphasis is placed on physical examination relating to disease and the veterinary technician practice model.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Describe the need for and demonstrate how to safely restraint multiple animal species.
  • Recognize and describe the techniques used in patient assessment, intervention and documentation.
  • Describe and demonstrate proficiency in physical examination, SOAP composition and MAOR construction.
  • Understand and demonstrate proficiency exotic and orphaned animal care.
  •  Complete AVMA Essential Skills: N3-22, LAP1-3, LAP21, EXO1, EXO10.
